BG Baarregaard – Aalone EP

Icelandic groove warrior B.G. Baarregaard is back on Paper Disco with an EP written after a move to the Norwegian town of Aal. Avoiding the use of samples it’s modern flipped out good time music for feet and floors wherever they may be.

AMR is modern disco with a popping NRG acid bass, funky keys, some Nile guitar and everything you need for a disco ball moment. Just when you think you’ve got it nailed the chord changes and off it goes again.

From the first bass and chords of Kulturhuset you know summer is well and truly on the way. If house music wore a grin then this would have one a mile wide. Stabbing chords, jumping drums and tuned percussion bring the sunshine.

Finally Mestringskatten is the deepest track of the package but still has that 80s synth sound. It’s in beach bar mode with plenty of twinkling and balearic sensibility ideal for sinking a Pina Colada on the Adriatic. So when you’re sat there thinking I know this this one, well this is it!

Yam Who? : “Bjorn providing the special goody bag!”

Sleazy McQueen : “My favorite Iceland-cum-Ål transplant is quite at home surrounded by icy soundscapes, bouncing, round bass and latin percussion. It’s a treat to hear him develop as an artist through the years.”

Fingerman: “Nice chuggy numbers. Kulturhuset stands out for me. First rate :)”

Get Down Edits: “Proper, This is cosmic disco at its best, top quality!”

Daco “Great EP with lots of bounce!”

ROBOT 84 : “Nice summer vibes!”

Chris Massey Music: “Mastringskattan sounding cooler than a Calippo Cucumber here….full support and will give this a few trial runs”

Cosmic Capers Radio Show : “Mestringskattens cosmic swirls gets the vote for me on this one, nice tune.”

Pete Herbert : “Love ’em”

Bad Barbie : Lovely laid back summer meanderings”

Neil Diablo : “Sexy ep! amr is my favorite”

Ricard Seaborne – Let’s Get Serious

Leeds’ finest is back on Paper with an EP showing off his chops as a producer on his uppers backed up by two remixes that have gone for the jugular and got a clean bite.

The original is an 80s influenced deep houser that will sound equally at home on a beach at sunset in the adriatic, bass quaking a festival rig or on a European motorway at 3am. With synth washes and a filtered riff it hypnotises it’s way to a state of balearic dancefloor heaven.

Renata takes it’s pointers from the mid-90s with a pad bringing to mind a time when acid house was getting it’s feet under the table. Add a big synth lead, stabby bass, strings and the spirit of the Beloved and Sub Sub is summoned up for the 00s.

In a game of two halves (Brian) Flash Atkins’ mix is all about the build. The deep and techy first section rides the one note bass and filtered synth with added Moog. It’s a steady reach for the break when things get kicked loose as the track is taken down to it’s raw elements. The bass changes and things are built back up synth by synth. Once it reaches it’s peak, take cover or you’re liable to get injured in the maelstrom.

B.G.Baarregaard – Partysvenskenes Dans EP

Paper’s Scandinavian connection continues with this release from one of Oslo’s finest residents. Although hailing from Reykjavik, B.G Baarregaard now resides in in Norway’s capital and its influence is clearly stamped all over this brilliant EP.

Partysvenskenes Dans has the kind of warm ‘n wobbly happenings that we’ve come to know and love from the scandi disco output. Plenty of resonance & space with a hint of Inspector Norse mean this treads on the right side of camp & kitsch whilst managing to pack enough of a stomp to ensure it blows up a dance floor.

(Got Me) Runnin’ jumps on a plane and heads straight to the late 80’s / early 90’s Manchester club scene. Big piano stabs and a classic vocal make it a real late night jacked out affair with everything here from the glory years of clubbing.

Konur Go Karlar seems to take on board both its predecessors to deliver a cut that is drenched in cosmicness as well as a nod to classic UK house. Simple, down the middle & hooky there’s enough going on to please those that favour discos and late night dancing dens.

Sleazy McQueen – “BG’s work is marked by some of the finest production quality in the modern disco scene. Partysvenskenes Dans sounds like BG’s been drinking the Norwegian-Disco kool-aid!”

Nutritious – “Undeniably fantastical.”

Ruben & Ra – “Nice’n’disco!”

Somerville & Wilson – “Bouncy poolside house done well Somerville & Wilson”

Diskobeistet – Birkelunden EP

Paper’s hook up with Norway continues to pay dividends with new artists who seem to knock it out the park with each release.

The latest is People Love Music’s Diskobeistet who tick all the boxes for grasping the sound of Paper’s heritage on a 4 track EP release for lovers of straight up “proper” house.

Birkelunden teams up tribally beats and smoking Rhodes with a Norwegian gentlemen’s vocal that we’re told is about going to the park, having a smoke and jumping up and down on a bouncy castle. So now you know.

The remix comes from another of our Norwegian friends, De Fantastiske To’s Ravi who gives it a bit of old school grit and jack before the bleepy bloppy style breakdown opens it up for the darkest dance floors. Is it techno? Is it house? Who cares!

Gammal Morro goes late night with a lazy hazy, sunset drenched vibe hooked around a Rhodes and nagging riff. Drive with the top down on this one and sport a pair of sockless espadrilles while you’re at it.

Nattergal is classic Paper all over, live sounding drums with snaps and claps in all the right places alongside a low slung bass line & chika chika guitar. Never straying far from the path, this is house for those that like it simple, straight forward and solid.

Support in from selectors:
