Rob O’Disco

Paper Recordings’ legendary club night Robodisco is back for ‘one night only’ of mayhem as a tribute to fallen friend and Robo hero Rob ‘O Shea.
Robodisco ran in Manchester though the 90s and 00s, earning its status as one of the UK’s best clubs for underground house. Alongside residents Miles Hollway, Elliot Eastwick, Ben Davis and Erik Rug, it hosted some of the world’s finest DJs including Derrick Carter, Josh Wink, Lil Louis, Jaques Lu Cont, Romanthony, Ashley Beedle, Kenny Hawkes as well as showcasing Paper’s homegrown sounds.
This one-off event has some of Rob’s DJ friends to brig the noise and the party, so dust off the Gio-Goi, break out your whistle and start practising your moves. ITS ON!
All profits will go to St Luke’s Hospice.

Robodisco – 1999

We have unearthed some rare footage of Robodisco in 1999 and it is the time Soane tore the roof off Planet K. The Paper crew were out in full effect, with a few early doors liveners in the Briton’s Protection before hitting the venue where Erik Rug warmed up and Soane took over… things get hazy from there.

There is also footage of the after party but it’s probably best left in the archive. Trumpets were involved.

Robodisco was the flagship night for Paper Recordings and here are some of the flyers by the fabulous Paul Cleary who was responsible for all the artwork back in the day.

Rune Lindbaek 1997 DJ Mix

Paper Recordings chum and mad professor Rune Lindbaek has found a mix from back in the day so GET IT HERE

I’ll let him explain!

I almost never make mixtapes but I made this one to my very good friend DJ Robin Jackson on a DAT in the legendary hot summer of 1997. We both had completely, utterly forgotten about this until it resurfaced tonight!

It’s a collection of some of the biggest tunes for me at that time, semi-sloppy and hazy ‘white widow’ mixed in the first take, containing a healty dose of Harvey, Idjuts and friends, Those Norwegians and my first solo 12″,  that I often played at places like Skansen, Jazid and Headon etc. in Oslo but also when guesting Sankys Soap and Roundhouse in Manchester – and Plastic People in London. These kind of tunes was also the basis for Klubb Kebabb (1999-2001).

I’m really glad Robin found this mixtape. Please push in the loudness button and play it loud!!
