2 Billion Beats – Spacey Disco Party EP

2 Billion Beats are back and blow me if they don’t just keep getting better. Instantly recognizable from their crisp arps, 80s synths and deceptively subtle arrangements the boys from the 80s are gathering steam nicely for their forthcoming album on Paper.

First up All Over Exposure has side chained pads, twinkling Rhodes, trippy sax, and synths weaving melodies as the track ebbs and flows for maximum dynamics. It builds steadily, gently drawing you in and before you know it you’re ‘tatas deep!

Kubrick’s Jive keeps the 80s thread going with its sounds and a shuddering chorused bass that builds to a punchy riff. It really takes off after the break with a nagging other-worldy sample, increasingly driven NRG bass and acid giving it some edge.

Finally Apollo saves the best till last by dropping the BPMs but upping the grunt . A guitar riff starts proceedings as the disco squelching bass come in, followed by a pitched vocal and sampled bass guitar combo. The 303 finishes things off nicely and its mission complete if dancefloor mayhem was the objective.

Sean Johnson (ALFOS) – A cheeky selection.

Doc L Jnr – This is a really good piece of work.

Sleazy McQueen – Digging the spaced out vibes!

Max Pask – 3 good tracks, Apollo 303 is my fave will play.

Chris Massey – Driven Crazy / Nectar Love

After releasing music on both El Diablos Social Club and Red Laser Records, Chris Massey has gone for the Manchester record label hat trick and lands at Paper Recordings with two tracks of solid dancefloor business.

Driven Crazy takes the party underground and gives us a heads down workout with growling bassline and snappy 808 sounds before a big piano breakdown demands your respect…murky, mucky house music at its finest.

Next up Nectar Love drops the BPMs then rolls out a stomping bass & cosmic synth stabs to create a hypnotic discotheque experience that starts off subtle before building to a big hands in the air drop. If you need a “transition” tune then this is the one to reach for.

Remix support comes from two of Paper’s finest. Leon Sweet turns in the goods for Nectar Love with a jacked up take that sticks close to the source material whilst cranking up the dirt.

2 Billion Beats get to work on Driven Crazy and completely flip the script, going in deep and dropping a dark destroyer that reeks of late night in a basement. Dress appropriately.

Trash The Wax Vol. 1

Paper’s output has often lurked on the fringes of disco and now seemed as good a time as any to jump in with both feet, goggles and snorkel.

“Trash The Wax Vol. 1” hits the digital racks on April 3 featuring 16 original low slung, wigged out and floor heavy cuts from the great, the good, the tapped and the untapped.

Released on Paper Disco (a sub label of Paper Recordings) it follows hot on the heels of the 80s sugar rush that was Proviant Audio’s “Drift Days & Disco Nights” which found its way in to the boxes of Tensnake, Soul Clap, Horsemeat Disco and Danny Krivit as well as garnering a Norwegian Emmy nomination for the best album of 2013.

Artists on Volume 1 range from young 80s bucks like 2 Billion Beats who are pretenders to Crazy P’s crown, Manchester’s City Life DJ of the 2013 and Wet Play resident Ste Spandex, Paper’s ginger underground house assassin Richard Seaborne and Italian duo Gran Turismo.

More seasoned support comes from veterans like bootleg king Keep Schtum, Brighton’s builder of heavy grooves Fingerman, Australia’s disco vigilante Late Nite Tuff Guy and Manchester’s best kept secret Daco. And that’s just the ones we mentioned!

Running from sleazy late night jams to 80s synth and NRG to classic cut-ups, if this album didn’t make you want to go out and jump off a podium it’s time to get your hearing checked!

Trash The Wax Vol. 1
1. Neil Diablo – Give It Up
2. 2 Billion Beats feat, Mariette Smith – See Us Through
3. Late Nite Tuff Guy – I’ve Been Thinkin’ Bout You

Proviant Audio – How Does It Feel?

Mathias Stubo’s disco project continues to forge its way ahead in 2014 with a nomination for Drift Days & Disco Nights as best dance album of last year in the equivalent of the Norwegian Grammys.

How Does It Feel featuring Lido Lido is the third single to be taken off it and is the perfect combination of 80s, disco and pop with good times written in to its DNA. With Rhodes, sparkling synths, a healthy dose of NRG and a killer hook it’s been all A-listed on Norwegian national radio and is as perfect a 4 minutes as you’d ever want to spend.

Veteran disco merchant Pete Herbert brings dancefloor know-how, giving his version a solid 4/4, nagging bass and killer riff that sounds like an instant classic. Recently road tested at Paper’s Christmas party it was the biggest tune of the night and as the break kicked in the cheers were worthy of a cup final!

Paper stalwart Richard Seaborne takes a different path with a mix that is all about the acid and the jack. With a bouncing bass and drums that swing it works a groove for those underground floors that are the best parties.

Roberto Rodriguez – Excellent tune with great remixes! Count me in!

Ron Basejam (Crazy P) – Pete’s mix is well chunkeh duck.

Q-Burns Abstract Message – Good stuff and definitely digging the Pete Herbert mix though I am a little allergic to ’80s synths. The original is pretty hot, too.

Olle Abstrakt – Really like the original and Pete´s mix. Will play both a lot. Great to hear LidoLido´s voice on some proper stuff. He´s a big popstar in Norway with silly tracks on the radio.

Severino Panzetta (Horsemeat Disco) – PETE HERBERT is the man .. Great Richard Seaborne mix too

DJ Rocca – Pete Herbert Mix for me…full support!

Black Mighty Wax – Original Mix is good for airplay and Pete Herbert Mix will be my guest several times along my DJ sets!!

Da Wiseguy – The original and the Pete Herbert Mix have their charm….but it’s the Richard Seaborne Mix which really hoofs it. Feels good to me!

Bootsy – All about the remixes for me. Seaborne’s remix taking it straight to a dirty basement, whilst Mr Herbert’s trademark sound flows his remix turning the track into a bona fide Disco winner!

Cowbell Radio – Pete Herbert’s mix is the winner for me, liking the break, the way it kicks back in and then the added synths afterwards!

Dan J – Richard Seaborne mix is wicked. Pete Herbert is well tasty too. Full support!

This Is Why We Dance – Pete Herbert mix for me.

Justin Harris (Freaks) – Love Richard’s mix!!

Mike Burns – The Pete Herbert Mix is the one for me. Nice n funky!

Proviant Audio Juno Review

Juno Review

Proviant Audio aka Mathias Stubo touches down on Paper Disco, a subsidiary of Paper Recordings, dedicated to only the funkiest of floor cuts. The original of “Like Never Before” is a vocal-heavy bomb reminiscent of the 70s, with enough soul to set your skates on fire. The 2 Billion Beats remix is a discofied, Pepe Bradock style tune, whilst Ste Spandex deliver a gorgeous live take on the original, with slithering percussion and one mean lean bassline, while Sleazy McQueen provides a shaking, filtered version to add another level of funk. TOP!

Proviant Audio – Like Never Before

PAPDLS155
Proviant Audio – Like Never Before

1. Original

2. Sleazy McQueen Mix

3. 2 Billion Beats Mix

4. Ste Spandex Live Hardware Mix

Proviant Audio are back with the second single from their album “Drifty Days & Disco Nights” that DJ Mag described as being “BETTER than Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories”.
It’s a shimmering piece of good time disco that has shades of the 80s and an earworm of a hook. With horns and synths backing up the vocals plus a full band and next level production it’s like summer is still here.

Florida resident and the man behind Whiskey Disco Sleazy McQueen takes things more 4/4 but retains the spirit of the original. It’s got plenty of atmosphere, a locked down bass, handclaps and lovely touches that give it a deep hypnotic feel.

2 Billion Beats go a bit more high energy with a bouncing kick and nagging sample but with their love of all things 80s shining through. The production is kept sparse, ready for the Rhodes that is given free range to do it’s thing and so it does!

Finally Manchester’s hotly tipped Wet Play resident Ste Spandex turns in a distorted nu-school banger. Taking the vocal and parts he stamps his style on it, driving the mix in to peaktime territory .

Rune Lindbaek – Aceness!

The Dead Rose Music Company – Love this!

Lewis Dene – Hauntingly simple and very affective.

Will Tramp – Nice. Lovely stuff!

Patski Love – Sleazy is the winner!

Q-Burns Abstract Message – Mr. McQueen’s groovy treatment is the one for me here … on point.

Cowbell Radio – Lovely stuff, nice choice of remixes but it’s 2 Billion Beats that tip the scales for me (natch)! As always, guaranteed to get people bouncing!

Tensnake – It’s a musthave for sure.

DJ Wrighty (Soul Buggin’) – 2 Billion Beats mix is the the one for me, it gives it a big disco injection.

Dean “Sunshine” Smith – Original for me, a nice slice of shimmer.

Gareth Sommerville – 2 Billion Beats is bestest.

Stuart Knight (Toolroom) – Nice slab of 80s vibes on a friday… thank you chaps
full support.

Cesare Cera aka Black Mighty Wax – Super!! great reworks from Sleazy McQueen and 2 Billion Beats.

Billy Scurry – Toss up between billion beats and sleazy.. really great remixes.

Christophe (Futureboogie) – Aces.

Frank Lihaug – Brilliant package. Sleazy McQueen is the BOMB!

Joe Morris – Horizons EP

Joe Morris – Horizons EP

1. Over My Head
2. Zazous
3. Sky Drops

Joe Morris has been earning his stripes as a DJ for over 20 years and more recently as a producer with releases on 3am, Nang, EDSRC and Baker Street. He is also promoter of the Leeds based Clandestino parties that burn a hole in the Northern underground. Joe can be found party starting behind the decks at places like the Electric Elephant and all over the UK and Europe.

Over My Head kicks things off and is main room deep house with plenty of soul. Wrapped around an analogue bass riff and synth stabs, it’s techy drums keep building to a vocal sample that gives it that all-important feeling. The track twists and turns with builds and drops for aces high dancefloor dynamics.

Next up, Zazous takes up Joe’s trademark Balearic signature sound with warm pads, drums and a touch of old school. Synth strings, washes, arps and stabs let the track ebb and flow like the Med lapping at your feet with a sundowner in your hand!

Sky Drops slows things down a notch but keeps it Balearic. Again taking it’s influence from the golden era of house, it’s the sound of Ibiza in the 90s when optimism and smiling faces were all that counted. Lush chords, strings and pianos immerse you in a world where all is good and pulsing to a house beat.

Laurent Garnier – Emoional deep moody tracks, great EP! Will play for sure!

Psychemagik – Will play out for sure!

Richard Seaborne – Girl Music EP

PAPDLS152

Richard Seaborne – Girl Music EP

1. Date Night
2. I Know You Love Me
3. Belle Choses

Richard Seaborne is back with a three track EP that oozes deep disco and demonstrating why he is a producer to watch. Always armed with an unexpected vocal and crisp production, big things are round the corner.

Richard first appeared on Paper with The Reasons Why. It was deadpan take-down of a former lover that rocked the floors of Aeroplane, Horsemeat Disco, Doc Martin, Roberto Rodriguez, Eric Duncan and Tensnake to name just a few.

Date Night kicks things off and is a hypnotic deep house nagger with a recurring delayed synth stab that filters in and out. Set over Richard’s swinging drums it works the groove with a crushed vocal to add melody and intrigue. Suitable for beard strokers and disco queens alike.

I Know You Love Me has gorgeous reverbed percussion over disco beats and a feel good sample. Add an easy listening vocal that sounds like it’s never belonged anywhere else and you’ve got a timeless track that is deceptively deadly!

To round things off Belle Choses finds it’s groove in a locked down disco sample and drives that bad boy all the way home! With live broken house beats it draws you in with it’s repetitiveness, off set by filtering, disco toms, camp vocal, samples and efx firing off for detonation!

Once I Thought by Proviant Audio OUT NOW

Proviant Audio – Once I Thought

1. Original
2. Prins Thomas Disko Mix
3. Chris Massey Mix
4. Leon Sweet’s Wizard Mix
5. Flash Atkins Mix

Mathais Stubo’s Proviant Audio is launching Paper Disco with Once I Thought, the first single from his forthcoming second album ‘Drift Days & Disco Nights’.

His debut, ‘Real Love Tastes Like This’ announced his arrival in 2011 in true style with it’s heady mix of house, disco, soul and hip-hop. The new material is more disco and demonstrates his continued development as one of the most new exciting producers around today.

Once I Thought points the way towards a more disco direction but still with his trademark choppy production and layered instrumentation. Add an arrangement that always surprises to a vocoded vocal earworm and the summer of disco finally lands via Norway!

Prins Thomas takes on his fellow countryman in fine style, bringing his own psychedelic disco sound. Retaining the vocal, the hypnotic bass is introduced and the track builds before the broken kick is introduced a full 3 ½ minutes in. It continues to ebb and flow with washes, synths, samples, acid and moving bass in true head and feet mashing style. It finishes off the way it begins, deep and trippy!

Nu disco upstart Chris Massey takes time out from his day jobs at Paper Towers and Electric Elephant to come up with a mix that ticks the 4/4 disco boxes but takes it big room. With spacious bass and synth and the original’s nagging guitar it’s got Funktion 1 written all over it!

Leon Sweet brings his trademark crisp production and gives the mix a 80s bent. With touches of Blancmange and Japan, it’s squelchy, synthy and dancefloor effective!

Flash Atkins takes a more organic direction with live drums and percussion building up to a fat dropped bass and 4/4 beat. The break reintroduces the percussion again before it’s back to business!

Feedback so far…

Soul Clap – “Prins Thomas takes it epic again, nice oneeeee”

Danny Krivit – “Liking several of the mixes!”

Justin Harris feat. Laura Vane – “Breathe 1,2,3” – Out Now!

PAPDLS151
Justin Harris feat. Laura Vane – 1,2 3 Breathe
1. Original
2. House Mix
3. House Dub
4. Down Tempo Mix

Justin Harris, an acid house warrior since 1987 finally arrives on Paper with his debut release 1,2,3 Breathe. His CV boasts gigs at clubs like Panorama Bar, Fabric, The End, Back To Basics and Robert Johnson and remixes for The Human League, Tiefshwartz and Mathew Herbert on labels like Classic, SWAG, Crosstown Rebels and 20 20 Vision. Amongst his many collaborations, Freaks with Luke Solomon is best know for their leftfield take on house and groundbreaking label MFF.

Breathe 1,2,3 is deep house with a soul that has a stamp of quality running through it like a stick of Blackpool rock. Minimal drums, analogue bass, piano and synth strings set things up for Laura Vane’s heart felt and timeless vocals.

The house mix ups drive and tempo but retains the deepness. Along with additional classic house stabs, the piano and strings give the track some nice chord progressions as the vocals tell their story.

The dub strips things back even more with the vocal stabbing and out as the music unfolds.

Finally, the down tempo mix breaks things right down for a lush version that aims at the hairs on your back of you neck and hits.

Sean Johnston (A Love From Outer Space) – Very good indeed!

Sleazy McQueen -I ‘m feeling the midtempo vibes, for sure!
