Rave-enka – Påfuglen EP

After providing hefty remix action for Richard Seaborne and behind the massive Gimme Some Dim Sum as one half of De Fantastiske To, Ravi Brunsvik steps up to drop his debut solo EP of the Norwegian good stuff on Paper.

Antibac kicks things off and to quote Chris in the office “it builds like an absolute bastard!”. Nearly 10 minutes of solid thunder is accompanied by jacking percussion and icy synth stabs whilst the beat just keeps on trucking. This one will grab you before you realise what’s happened.

Sur Sennep takes things to a late night discotheque located somewhere between The Hacienda and a Croatian festival. An almost acid house set up leads the way before evolving into the kind of balearic disco that can only be dreamed up in Norway. There are plenty of hooky synths, old skool keys and a bassline that squelches. Good times ahead when you unleash this..

Closing the EP off Påfuglen picks up the baton and takes things to the chill out room. Minimalistic and stripped back yet still full of enough synth squeaks, tweaks & bleeps to keep you hooked and intrigued. If Kraftwerk opened an opium den then this would surely be on their in-house playlist.

Ralph Myerz presents R.E.C

The unofficial King of Norway Ralph Myerz is back on Paper with a brand new project and his hallmark impeccable production. R.E.C. is his new collaboration with fellow Vikings Eddie Da Bass and Carina and they have turned out three original tracks plus a remix of big room house that will have people running to the booth demanding to know what it is.

Hercules & The Love Affair’s Nomi Ruiz is the Dirty Diva and lets it be known that there will be no prisoners. Originally titled “Peter Rauhofer Tribute Made With Love” it has all the hallmarks of his classic Sound Factory / Twilo sound and is best heard on a big warehouse rig with the smell of poppers in the air. There’s a nagging stab, bumping bass, ricocheting snares and the riff builds with reverbs and the X rated vocal. As the stabs filter and the drop beckons, best get prepared as carnage is round the corner.

Don’t Leave Me Now keeps the NYC vibe going with nailed on the one drums, a driving riff and moaned vocals from Leona Freiburg. The sub keeps things building before it breaks to some keys and it’s back in with added arp and heads down proper house music.

Michigan takes things deeper and pulls Man Without County’s Ryan James along for the ride. Mid 90s bass, Maurizio inspired drums and breathy vocals make it a head trip that keeps building in it’s intensity.

Finally, Ralph takes Dirty Diva and puts it through his psychedelic scandi-disco machine that tips a wink to Paper’s early days. There’s plenty of percussion and and FXed out synths and after the big room originals is more suited to a grotty basement long after it was going home time.

Overall a package that is going LARGE!

Mezman – Le Deepend

We’re getting prepped & ready to leave the cold Winter nights behind us with these two cuts from Mezman.

Le Deepend filters into action as soon as you press play and much like its partner on this EP it’s got a warm & throbbing low end in spades. A simple loop is used to great effect with a subtle & cleverly used Aretha vocal to give it that little bit of extra disco dust.

Heatwave gets into action right from the off with a slap bass thats packs enough wobble to make Larry Graham proud. It’s classic jacked out disco percussion cracks in all the right places before we’re treated to a hell of a breakdown that builds before dropping right back in to the good stuff.

Both tracks are certified killers and pack a shallop when they’ve been dropping at Paper parties.

Chez Damier:
“I SIMPLY THINK ITS HOT! I would play both mixes”

Oliver $:

B.G.Baarregaard – Partysvenskenes Dans EP

Paper’s Scandinavian connection continues with this release from one of Oslo’s finest residents. Although hailing from Reykjavik, B.G Baarregaard now resides in in Norway’s capital and its influence is clearly stamped all over this brilliant EP.

Partysvenskenes Dans has the kind of warm ‘n wobbly happenings that we’ve come to know and love from the scandi disco output. Plenty of resonance & space with a hint of Inspector Norse mean this treads on the right side of camp & kitsch whilst managing to pack enough of a stomp to ensure it blows up a dance floor.

(Got Me) Runnin’ jumps on a plane and heads straight to the late 80’s / early 90’s Manchester club scene. Big piano stabs and a classic vocal make it a real late night jacked out affair with everything here from the glory years of clubbing.

Konur Go Karlar seems to take on board both its predecessors to deliver a cut that is drenched in cosmicness as well as a nod to classic UK house. Simple, down the middle & hooky there’s enough going on to please those that favour discos and late night dancing dens.

Sleazy McQueen – “BG’s work is marked by some of the finest production quality in the modern disco scene. Partysvenskenes Dans sounds like BG’s been drinking the Norwegian-Disco kool-aid!”

Nutritious – “Undeniably fantastical.”

Ruben & Ra – “Nice’n’disco!”

Chris Coco – “Cool and a lot of fun at the same time, is that possible?”

Julian Sanza – “Loving this release! cheers!”

Trash The Wax # 2

Following the trail-blazing footsteps left by the first volume we are pleased to herald the arrival of Trash The Wax # 2.

Volume 1 shot to the top spot of the Juno Download chart and has been heard in such far flung discotheque destinations as Croatia, Ibiza, Leeds, London, Ireland and the motherland of Manchester. Support came from Emperor Machine, Psychemagik, Danny Krivit, Tom Findlay (Groove Armada), Horse Meat Disco, Eric Duncan and many more.

The second instalment picks up the (glitter) ball and cranks things up with 19 tracks courtesy of seasoned sound creators. There is Midnight Riot’s 80’s Child, Festival Number 6’s disco queen Sophie Lloyd, Norwegian legend Doc L Junior, Disco Deviance fellas SHMLSS, edit master Alkalino plus the man with the dirtiest underpants in club land Flash Atkins!

We’ve also brought some new discoveries to the fold who have turned up, turned on and turned out to capture the TTW vibe. Step forward Pammin, Tuxxedo, The Funk District, Morgan Cannon, Belabouche and Somerville & Wilson.

From Volume 1 Leon Sweet, Neil Diablo, 2 Billion Beats, Pablo & Shoey and Paper’s very own tea boy Chris Massey make a return visit with more essential dance floor filling cuts to tickle your boogie bone.

Expect everything from jacked out chugged up shufflers to bangers and sing-a-long peak timers so if Trash The Wax Volume 1 made you move then Volume 2 will ensure you need to go shopping for a new pair of dancing clogs.

Album includes a bonus DJ Megamix from one of Paper’s bright stars – Leon Sweet

Richard Seaborne – Times Are Hard

After previous releases on Paper and Paper Disco, the man who asked “Is This Acid?” (as charted by Todd Terje and featured on Tensnake’s All Gone Pete Tong comp) returns with Times Are Hard.

The original is a post neon 80’s style workout that wouldn’t sound out of place if you were driving a white Testarossa down the California freeway at night. A chopped disco loop gives way to a laid back smooth bass line with delay drenched synth stabs before the sultry vocal delivers.

Paper’s head tea boy and pasty lover Chris Massey throws all the above out of the window and drops a solid 4am whopper with the wobbliest & wonkiest off key synth and bass line this side of his home-town Bolton. It’s already had Emperor Machine asking to do an edit so handle this one with care!

Our Norwegian friends De Fantastiske To drop a mix that could be at home in the basement clubs of New York. It’s simple, jacking & slacking with hypnotic synths alongside the original’s vocal. This is heads down house music with a slight look up only to have a blast a poppers.

DJ Rocca – – “Chris Massey remix blowed my mind!”

Mugwump – “The Chris Massey remix is fucking bonkers.”

Reza Athar – “Lovely! Big fan of Richard as I told this 1000 times. Chris Massey’s mix is incredible as well!”

De Fantastiske To – Smile EP

Paper’s relationship with Norway continues to go from strength to strength and we’re super excited to have brand new artists from the land of the midnight sun : De Fantastiske To. They are Oslo residents Marius Sommerfeldt and Ravi Brunsvick with a talent for making modern soulful house music with a foot in the old school.

Kodenavn Syden kicks things off with 909 / 808 drums, a two line bass and lush chords. Coming on like a Nu Groove classic, an arp weaves its way round the soulful grooves and the result is house music that has quality running though it like a stick of Bergen rock. If they have rock.

Smile is percussion heavy with jazzy Rhodes and a deep American voice extolling the virtues of positivity. Summoning the spirit of Marshall Jefferson’s Open Your Eyes there’s a preset sax playing the top line and it’s the sound of a lost classic from back in the day.

Finally Dragsug slows things down but finds a killer groove with a live bass and hypnotic feel that builds before synth keys give it the hook Layers of strings are then added as the track finds its way to dance floor heaven.

Ron Basejam (Crazy P) – Real nice, understated and not reliant on dynamic pops and whistles to do its job.

Rocky (X-Press 2) – Dragsug for me. Going to be fun trying to pronounce this lot on the radio tomorrow.

Ralph Myerz – Awesome EP from an awesome duo that I strongly believe have a bright future in front of them. All traxx are great, very hard to pick a favourite.
