Neil Diablo – Let’s Get It On EP

1. Let’s Get It On.
2. Yr Mnd Yr (Dub)
3. Take Two

Neil Diablo has been a cornerstone of the Northwest’s club scene over the past ten years through his El Diablo’s Social Club, which has been a bastion for all things disco and house. Booking guests like Greg Wilson and Eric Duncan, it is well known that Neil is the DJ that the crowds go to hear. Out of the night has sprung EDSC Recordings and his vinyl only disco edits as Evil K’Neil on KAT Records that are highly sought after, selling out in days.

Let’s Get It On is deep tribal business headed straight to the main room. It’s teeth are shown once the organ synth comes in for proper heads down foot to the floor deep house that bites. The latter half of the track gives the 303 a run out and it’s all boxes ticked!

Yr Mnd Yr first saw the light of day on the Paper Cuts # 1 compilation earlier in the year, finding favour with DJs like Justin Robertson, Andy Ash and Love From Outer Space’s Sean Johnston. Here he strips things back for a dub that is tough house music, drawing equal inspiration from Detroit, NYC and Chicago.

Finally he flexes his disco muscles on Take Two. Taking things right down, it’s a rolling funk groove with an off-kilter bass, delayed synths, dub stabs and a sample that does it’s thing in slo-mo style. Music for the head and feet.

Daco – Drip Dry

Paper Recordings are back with Manchester soul warrior Daco for the latest single release including a great remix from the ever consistent Yam Who?

Dave Connally AKA Daco has been releasing quality dance music for the last 20 years on labels like WEA as part of Mellowstate in the early nineties, producing for numerous labels such as Sony Music and working alongside the likes of Zed Bias, The Una Bombers and Finley Quaye. His ‘Aquarium EP’ on Paper in 2009 received broad critical acclaim and support and is now followed up with ‘Drip Dry’.

The A side features the original version of ‘Drip Dry’, a funk laden slice of slo-mo house boogie with warm analogue bass, soulful keys and looped vocal lines leading to an uplifting classic piano line that conjures up the spirit of late eighties house.

The flipside sees Yam Who? take the remix reins and deliver a bumping nu-disco house cut that ups the tempo and brings the moog work to the fore and a distinctly Moroder-esue feel to the proceedings.

BUY IT IN THE SHOP

Laurent Garnier : Definitely for my record box. Great tracks!

Una Bombers : Classy piece of retro modernism from Daco. Love it. And the Yamster comes good as always upping the tempo for later in the night. Will be dropping both of these beauties.

Ralph Lawson : Diggin the Yam Who? mix.

Rocky : Love the Yam Who? version.

Jim Baron (Crazy P) : Yes, yes! Our Dave comes up trumps here, lovin it. Massive slo-mo hands in the air &Yamz mix is handy too particularly when the faster drugs have kicked in.

Red Rack’em : Loving the OG and the remix is really cool too – I love the spacey synth action from Yam.

Stuart Patterson : Lush innit. Playlisted for the radio and I’m old enough to play it in a club as well.

Diskjokke : Loved the original, very cool track!

Horse Meat Disco : Yam Who? delivers a super playable rmx

Phat Phil : Yam Who giving it the uplift with a great remix.

Nelson Ramalho : What a fantistic track and a great start for 2011. Both Original and Yam Who? remixes

Chris Coco : Lovely and groovy, original version for me

Martin Brew : Ace!

Neil Scott (El Diablos) : Aceness! Original doing it for me but Yam Who? remix really nice too

Fred Everything : Nice release, Yam Who Remix? for me.

Billy Scurry : Lovin this!! Both strong tracks but the original does it for me, love that swing, bass and piano then great pads… Monster!!

DJ Alex From Tokyo : 2 sweet modern boogie jams!

Craig Smith (6th Borough Project) : Nice slice of 80’s style vibes

Bonar Bradberry : Really cool! Yamz mix sounds grrreat!

Leftside Wobble : Both versions ooze class but mid tempo grooves of the original definitely tip it for me.

Mathew Krysko : Boogie boogie boogie – like the original.

The Dead Rose Music Company : I love the original, real low down soundtrack to a disco extravaganza. Yam’s mix wasn’t what I was expecting, the arp groove is sick and will get played for sho!!! Big love and respect to the synth pads.

DACO : Feel Your Love feat. Sarah Howard. Out March.
