2 Billion Beats – Meanders EP

As Phil Lynott once sang, ‘The Boys Are Back In Town’ and indeed they are, as 2 Billion Beats jump back in the Paper saddle.

Three brand new cuts of analogue electronic brilliance make up the Meanders EP and its a true return to form.

Beats of No Nation puts Fela through the disco machine for a lazy chug number. It has a tribal build that gives way to an acid B-line alongside a distorted vocal and big chord stabs to make this a solid ALFOS box ticker.

Empty Boulevard has plenty of cosmic arp action and synth stabs to lift it into peak E time tackle before lush piano chords mellow things out. And don’t forget the disco strings.

Down The Docks is the dance floor weapon on this package. Heavy bass jumps around with raspy lead lines and clattering percussion to give it a proper low slung flavour…and the drop detonates!

Pete Herbert: “Excellent as usual!”

Daco: “Loving the disco theme running throughout this release. ‘Beats of No Nation’ is the stand-out track with ‘Empty Boulevard’s euphoric vibes coming in a close 2nd. Superb!”

Robot 84: “Great release , all three tracks really strong, Beats Of No Nation is killer love it…”

Pathaan: “Loving all 3 tracks ! Empty Boulevard hits the spot today, no doubt the other will another day”

Stevie Wonder vs. 2 Billion Beats – FREE DOWNLOAD

To celebrate Stevie’s 70th birthday, 2 Billion Beats took him in to the lab and this piece of magic is the result. 7 minutes of dancefloor heaven.

BOM – Green Fuzz

Ben ‘Flash Atkins’ Davis and Tom ‘2 Billion Beats’ Lonsborough have teamed up for a project that goes deep down to the depths of tripped out house music.

The Day has a rolling acid sub bass and haunting vocal sample that brings the soul. Horns spar with percussion, bongoes, synths and Rhodes as the broken beats thump on the one.

Big Chief keeps the vibe techy and slo-mo as a 303 riff tweeks over the sub. A vocal chant and synth drive things along as the beat gets baggier and the build is on. Big Chief of the title brings his Mardi Gras chant to the break, then the Happy Mondays are channeled by way of Fabric as strings bring all the elements back together.

Moon of Endor is based around a chunky film sample, which the nerds among us should be able to work out from the title. Its a return of slo-mo tribal acid business by way of the jungle with synth chords saving it from the dark side and its a skywalk to the stars.

Drop the Pressure by Flash Atkins & 2 Billion Beats

Two of Paper’s favourites have collaborated to update Mylo’s classic Drop The Pressure in to a nu-disco banger that’s set to take over the summer. What started as an edit quickly turned in to a full blooded re-make before they hauled in Crazy P’s Danielle Moore for vocals under her Ladydriver guise.

The original brings a band to the party with rhythm guitar, strings, live bass and horn section. The intro teases before the riff that everybody knows and then wallop, we’re off. For the break, Danni brings the disco and hands in the air doesn’t even touch it.

Norwegian next big things Lakeshouse knock it out the park with their 4/4 nu-disco version. It weaves the dynamics and melody around a vocoder and NRG that locks in to deliver a classy, dancefloor remix.

Marma Boog goes deep and cosmic for a pitched down balearic take. 80s synths and drums top off burbling and tripped out vocals. Sunsets never sounded so good.

PAPER CUTS # 4 ON JUNO

2 Billion Beats – Remix EP feat. Leon Sweet, Richard Seaborne & Magnus International

Tom and Col have dusted off their high tops and asked the Paper Allstars to give their favourite album track a rub-down.

Richard Seaborne went for Papa and has kept some 80s flava while stripping things back to the raw groove as only he can. There’s a boogie house bass, a rock sold kick, shaky hats and GizMo adding some warped vocals. Oh, and did I mention the acid?

Leon Sweet returns to the fold and it’s good to have him back on Slow Down. Clipped tech-house drums and hypnotic synths burble along, all held down by a kick that carries some serious weight. Using the chiming and vocals from the original, the track builds to a crescendo that will melt dance floors.

Finally Norway’s finest, Magnus International goes breakbeat with a nod to the glory days of rave as he uses plenty of the original track to weave it’s weave it’s 5am magic.

2 Billion Beats – Be Nice To Each Other

2 Billion Beats are Manchester based DJs and producers Tom Lonsborough and Col Hamilton. They have come up through the rainy city’s thriving club scene after being inspired by acts such as Groove Armada, Basement Jaxx, Chemical Brothers and Crazy P. They wanted to carry on that legacy of taking electronic beats live to smash up dance floors, mosh pits and festivals. Oh boy have they succeeded!

Signed to Paper Recordings in 2011 they have gone on to deliver remixes and originals to an array of international labels such 3am, Stoneyboy, Finish Team and Deep Site. DJs such as Ralph Myerz, Justin Robertson, Aeroplane, Tensnake, Horse Meat Disco, Eric Duncan, Fingerman and Danny Krivit have been turned on with tracks such as ‘The Moodymann’ and ‘Noise In Your Eye’ which are regarded by some as modern club classics.

Their remit is tight disco and house influenced grooves created with a love for live recordings of real instruments and synthesiser hardware in a writing process that involves multiple reworks, samples and chaotic collaboration.

For their debut album ‘Be Nice To Each Other’ 2 Billion Beats have hooked up with vocalists Marietta Smith and Dieter Lynch to take the production and songwriting up a notch ready for entry in to the big league. From dance floor bangers to full blown hands-in-the-air anthems and super deep tech-house to 80s inspired nu-disco nodders, the album packs a punch as it’s songs flow seamlessly from one to the next, designed to be a listened to as a whole as it bleeds together for a soundtrack to the best night of your life.

In an increasingly uncertain world the album comments on the grind of life in an ever morphing, media controlled world and asks the question ‘are we just able to just be nice to each other?’. Well there’s only one way to find out so don your rave goggles and jump in, 2 Billion Beats are coming your way!

2 Billion Beats – Revolutions / Warm Feeling EP

It’s been a long time coming but 2 Billion Beats’ debut album is ready to pop and here’s the second EP to be taken from it.

Revolutions struts its way onto the dance floor for a track that is deep, solid and aimed squarely between the eyes. It features some heavy cosmic squelches & squeaks before an arp hits to shift things up a gear to the setting marked ‘heavy”. This will take you to the stars & back whilst stopping off in the basements for a top up.

Warm Feeling is a melting pot of jacking-disco-jazz tinged house music with the silky vocals of Dieter that perfectly partners up with the soaring pads, busty Rhodes & firecracker percussion. It delivers a surefire selection for all the party jocks.

Norway’s Magnus International steps in fresh from one of the albums of the year on Prins Thomas’ Full Pupp . He takes Revolutions and straddles techno and house for a mix that is pure peak time heads down tackle for tougher floors.

Finally Italy’s DJ Steevo goes full on dance floor nu-disco shaker for his mix of Warm Feeling. He takes the B-line in to an NRG direction, thumps the drums and lets the Rhodes do it’s work whilst using synths and delayed vocals to give the track dynamics.

Justin Robertson: “Top stuff on the Magnus remix”

Mugwump: “Loving the original of Revolutions”

Sean Johnston/Hardway Bros: “DJ Steevo doing the biz!”

Discodromo: “Great! love the Magnus International remix”

Revolutions – is a loopfest for dark corners and the DJ Steevo remix is a slo-mo disco banger!”

Duncan Gray: “Wow, loving that Magnus remix of Revolutions. nice one. thanks!”

Ed Mahon (Cowbbell Radio) : “Revolutions is a sure fire winner, big hit on dancefloors! Loving the DJ Steevo remix of Warm Feeling too, excellent stuff! Welcome back”

2 Billion Beats – Sold My Soul

2 Billion Beats are back with an almighty slab of disco licked house music that is cooler than a cucumber straight out the fridge!

Sold My Soul is the first release from their forthcoming album on Paper and sets its stall out right from the word go! Synths stabs that instantly grab you, smooth bass, amazing vocals and also a big old hands aloft piano breakdown that ensures the rafters will be heavily shaken! Plenty more greatness to come from their album in Spring but this should keep you well & truly topped up in the meant time.

On remix duty is Paper’s boy wonder Chris Massey who takes the party subterranean & ups the oomph factor with a full on stomper & dub version. They both demand a full dance floors attention and will guarantee to give the PA system a good going over.

Hold tight suckas!

Ron Basejam: “Chris’s dub is doing the job!”
