Crazy Penis – A Nice Hot Edit With – Textura Review

It’s pretty hard to take seriously a recording credited to Crazy Penis but, in fact, the group’s A Nice Hot Edit With … is seriously good. The band’s A Nice Hot Bath With … appeared in 1999, so it’s no great surprise to hear the 2010 re-work sound so deliciously old-school; in short, if you’re a fan of Yore’s deep, neo-classic sound and the idea of a vocal-less Chic likewise strikes your fancy, you’ll likely cotton to A Nice Hot Edit With just as much.

The third and final sampler from Crazy Penis’ ‘A Nice Hot Edit with’ album.

Crazy Penis’ debut album ‘A Nice Hot Bath With’ was one of the long players of 1999 and still holds a special place in many people’s memory, now in 2010 Paper have decided to hand over the tracks from this album to some of their favourite producers out there and as such have created the marvellous ‘A Nice Hot Edit with’.

For the final instalment Crazy P step up themselves to remix the excellent ‘Do it Good’, making the most of the fact that they manage to salvage the original parts by creating a brilliant disco fuelled, breakbeat driven anthem. Funk laden bass and tinkling Rhodes piano keys intertwine with tight guitar licks to form the basis for this superb re-invention of one of their favourite cuts.

On the flip the respected production duo Yam Who? take the reins and turn in a sublime edit of ‘Omega Man’ , taking the soulful funk of the original and twisting it into a nu-disco classic to keep the winter fires burning bright.

Hot Toddy (Crazy P) plays at Shameless Disco

In SD’s opinion – and we agree, the January blues are rather overrated, having spent 3 weeks on the Atkins diet, it’s time to rip up that gym membership, hop off that wagon again and head to the Horse & Groom for a guaranteed January blues buster of a night. Their special guest is none other than Hot Toddy.

Get your shakin’ asses down there.
