Robot 84 – Secrets EP

e’ve not been using the C word for a while round these parts but that’s not to say we’ve gone off it. This knockout 3 track EP from Paper newcomer Robot 84 has rekindled the love of all things CHUG.

Secrets gets things rolling and is driven along by an arp bassline whilst spaced out percussion hits spin & sparkle alongside reverb drenched pads & strings that look to the stars.

If Secrets is the journey then Automatic lands you slap bang in the middle of the dance floor with a straight up, heads down house vibe. Imagine underground Manchester crossed with Baldelli’s Cosmic Club and you’re headed in the right direction.

Ego is a darker affair than its predecessors and more tuned for the 4am crowd. No messing house music, it trucks & thunders along with stubby brass sections coming in here & there, all topped off with spaced out delays & reverb to make it a worthy addition to this interstellar EP.

Support from:

Leftside Wobble – The Italo bump and grind of ‘Secrets’ is working it’s magic on me.

Mezman – Le Deepend

We’re getting prepped & ready to leave the cold Winter nights behind us with these two cuts from Mezman.

Le Deepend filters into action as soon as you press play and much like its partner on this EP it’s got a warm & throbbing low end in spades. A simple loop is used to great effect with a subtle & cleverly used Aretha vocal to give it that little bit of extra disco dust.

Heatwave gets into action right from the off with a slap bass thats packs enough wobble to make Larry Graham proud. It’s classic jacked out disco percussion cracks in all the right places before we’re treated to a hell of a breakdown that builds before dropping right back in to the good stuff.

Both tracks are certified killers and pack a shallop when they’ve been dropping at Paper parties.

Chez Damier:
“I SIMPLY THINK ITS HOT! I would play both mixes”

Oliver $:
“Nice one will play it!”

Harri (Sub Club):
“Can use heatwave for sure!”

Jim Baron (Crazy P/Ron Basejam):
“staright in at the Deepend!”

Severino (Horse Meat Disco):
“YES PLEASE this is AWESOME!!!”

Stuart Knight (Toolroom):
“LE DEEPEND is the one for me”

Sleazy McQueen:
“Packs a whallop!”

Chris Massey:
“This is without a doubt absolute massive stuff! Solid disco licked house workout vibes that’ll sound boss on a big rig.”

Fingerman:
“Fantastic tracky disco gear. Both will get a rinsing :)”

Leon Sweet:
“Quality jams… i’m a Mezman fan. Just in time for Oslo too. All over it :)”

Somerville & Wilson:
“Great release on Paper Disco. Loving the loopy vibes of Heatwave. Support from Somerville & Wilson”

Badbarbie Beats (Kane Fm & Cruise FM):
“Good Time Vibes, Perky little groover x”

Wrighty (Soul Buggin’):
“funky as it comes, loving both these two”

Will TRAMP!:
“Great EP. Will be playing both tracks for sure”

Get Down Edits:
“Totally up our street :)”

80’s Child:
“Le Deepend rocking it and will get the most plays from me, great suff :)”

Richard Seaborne – Times Are Hard

After previous releases on Paper and Paper Disco, the man who asked “Is This Acid?” (as charted by Todd Terje and featured on Tensnake’s All Gone Pete Tong comp) returns with Times Are Hard.

The original is a post neon 80’s style workout that wouldn’t sound out of place if you were driving a white Testarossa down the California freeway at night. A chopped disco loop gives way to a laid back smooth bass line with delay drenched synth stabs before the sultry vocal delivers.

Paper’s head tea boy and pasty lover Chris Massey throws all the above out of the window and drops a solid 4am whopper with the wobbliest & wonkiest off key synth and bass line this side of his home-town Bolton. It’s already had Emperor Machine asking to do an edit so handle this one with care!

Our Norwegian friends De Fantastiske To drop a mix that could be at home in the basement clubs of New York. It’s simple, jacking & slacking with hypnotic synths alongside the original’s vocal. This is heads down house music with a slight look up only to have a blast a poppers.

DJ Rocca – – “Chris Massey remix blowed my mind!”

Mugwump – “The Chris Massey remix is fucking bonkers.”

Leon Sweet – Situation Stable EP

South coast resident Leon is back from rocking Croatia with two super good tracks that reflect both sides of the dance music coin.

“Above” is a fine slice of nu-disco to kick things off. It’s a kick heavy cut up with P funk bass, Chic guitar, live drums, sampled vocals and a healthy dose of leftfield wonk that has already proved itself at this year’s Electric Elephant.

On the flip “Below” takes things synthy, dark and hypnotic with congas to give it that all important funk element. It builds with 5th stabs, a healthy bottom end and enough melody to keep things interesting but it’s a 4am moment all the way.

Harri (Sub Club) – Digging these

Q-Burns Abstract Message – Below is one superb slink!

Ron Basejam (Crazy P) – Groovy shit.
